The 2025–26 academic year began with excitement and energy as UC San Diego students filled Warren Mall for “Day One Fest,” an annual kickoff celebration hosted by Associated Students Concerts and Events. The festival, designed to bring together new and returning Tritons after summer break, transformed the central campus plaza into a lively outdoor venue filled with music, art, and engagement opportunities.
As the sun set over the UC San Diego campus, students gathered around the main stage to enjoy live performances by local artists, student bands, and DJs. Interactive booths from campus clubs, resource centers, and departments surrounded the venue, offering games, prizes, and chances for students to learn about upcoming events and leadership opportunities. For first-year students, the festival provided an early glimpse into UCSD’s vibrant community culture. For returning students, it was a reunion with friends and organizations that shape their college experience.
Event organizers from Associated Students described “Day One Fest” as an essential tradition that reflects the university’s commitment to community and belonging. The planning team, composed of student volunteers, began preparations months in advance to coordinate vendors, sound production, and outreach. Food trucks and local businesses participated, contributing to an atmosphere that balanced entertainment with connection.
By night’s end, students described the festival as more than just a party. Many saw it as a symbol of renewal, an opportunity to start the academic year feeling inspired and connected. “Day One Fest really captures what UCSD is about,” said one student volunteer. “It’s about creativity, collaboration, and coming together.” The event’s success once again demonstrated how student leadership and organization can turn the start of a new academic year into a campus-wide celebration of identity, energy, and possibility.
